Overhead and Consultancy
Indirect costs or institutional overheads represent the institutional expenses incurred by Soban Singh Jeena University (SSJU) in supporting research activities undertaken by Principal Investigators (PIs), faculty members, and researchers. Research grant proposals submitted through SSJU should include applicable institutional overheads as per the guidelines and norms of the respective funding agency and University policies. The Research and Development Office (RDO) may facilitate discussions and negotiations with funding agencies regarding overhead provisions wherever required.
Consultancy projects at SSJU require appropriate coordination between the PI, the University, and the commissioning organisation to ensure that institutional interests and intellectual property rights are adequately protected. The Research and Development Office facilitates discussions on consultancy terms and agreements with client organisations and may coordinate with relevant University authorities, including the legal and administrative teams, for reviewing consultancy proposals and agreements.
Intellectual Property Rights
Research activities at Soban Singh Jeena University (SSJU) involving genetically modified organisms (GMO), recombinant DNA (rDNA) materials, or other biological materials requiring biosafety oversight should be undertaken in accordance with applicable Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, biosafety rules, regulations, and guidelines. Where applicable, the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBSC) is responsible for reviewing research activities, ensuring compliance with prescribed biosafety standards, and promoting safe handling and management of biological materials. Researchers should obtain the necessary institutional and regulatory approvals before commencing research activities falling within the scope of biosafety regulations.
Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC)
Research at SSJU involving human participants, human clinical samples, personal data, or other sensitive human-related research should comply with applicable ethical standards and guidelines, including those issued by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and relevant regulatory authorities. An appropriately constituted ethics committee reviews research proposals to safeguard the dignity, rights, safety, privacy, and well-being of research participants. Researchers undertaking human-participant research are expected to obtain the required ethical approval before initiating the study and follow approved protocols throughout the research process.
Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC)
Research involving animals at SSJU, where applicable, should be conducted in accordance with the guidelines and regulatory requirements of the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA) and other applicable authorities. The Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) is responsible for reviewing and overseeing animal research proposals to ensure that animal welfare, ethical standards, and prescribed procedures are appropriately followed. No research involving animals requiring ethical approval should be undertaken without obtaining the necessary institutional and regulatory permissions.
Institutional Review Board (IRB)
The Institutional Review Board (IRB), where applicable at SSJU, provides ethical oversight for research involving human participants and ensures that research is conducted in accordance with recognised principles of research ethics. The review process focuses on protecting participants' rights, dignity, safety, privacy, and welfare while ensuring that appropriate informed-consent and research procedures are followed. Research involving specific clinical, biological, or animal-related activities may additionally require review and approval from the relevant specialised ethics or biosafety committee in accordance with applicable University policies and regulatory requirements.
